The City of Manchester is the capital of the North West and is the commercial, educational and cultural focus for this effervescent region of England. The City's sporting and cultural base have been strengthened and enhanced by the result of hosting the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Manchester is providing a platform for promoting the UK, attracting world-class events. Manchester is a City of startling and significant challenges. It is home to a major international airport and one of the largest student populations in Europe. Manchester nightlife is legendary, with tastes to suit everyone and every mood, whether is a musical at its many theatres or seeing a band at the GMEX centre, there is something for everyone every night.

Manchester is situated in the heart of the North West within easy reach of other major cities such as York, Liverpool and Chester, a stay in the famous Midland Hotel, which has celebrated its 100th birthday, is a must for everyone as it a visit to the world famous Jodrell Bank. Many visitors to Manchester like to tour Granada Studios, home to Coronation Street, there are numerous art galleries and museums including the Museum of Science and Industry. Its location makes it the ideal base from which to access the North West Corner.
